Highland Capital Management’s charitable giving arm has a new manager. Linda Owen was appointed as the head of the division where she will team up with Highland co-founder James Dondero. Formerly, the Dallas civic leader served as the president of The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. She will collaborate with James Dondero to strategically steer Highland’s philanthropic programs as its charitable activities broadens.
As Highland’s charitable giving manager, she will work with The Dallas Foundation that directs the company’s charity fund. Commenting on the appointment, James Dondero noted that the need for a highly qualified professional became important as Highland’s charity activities expanded. Previously, Linda has established effective collaborations among private and public organizations in Dallas. She also shares Highland’s vision of establishing an instant difference within the society.
Highland’s yearly contributions that exceed $3 million go through The Dallas Foundation. These contributions to charitable institutions specialize on the Dallas community, veterans’ causes, health care, and education. Over the years, organizations such as the Dallas Zoo, the American Heart Association, and Uplift Education have benefited from Highland’s contributions. Additionally, these institutions are offered guidance via leadership roles and board service by James Dondero and some other executives from the company.
Owen said that the commitment that Highland has to philanthropy is inspiring. Besides funding, its employees offer their energy as well as time as active board members. They also develop creative ways to augment the causes and find solutions to the organizations’ challenges. Additionally, she noted that it was a privileged to work with a company that has that level of commitment.
James Dondero is a CMA, CFA, president, and co-founder of Highland Capital Management. Currently Dondero leads the firm’s investment strategies as well as its operations for institutional and retail products. He is one of the initial people to introduce the collateralized loan obligations.
Additionally, James Dondero serves as the chairman of the board for Cornerstone Healthcare, NexBank, along with CCS Medical Corporation. His board of directors’ seats includes American Banknote as well as MGM Studios. James specialized in accounting and finance for his undergraduate degree that he received from the University of Virginia.
